THERAPEUTIC / NEUROMUSCULAR / DEEP TISSUE

Therapeutic massage, also known as remedial massage, is designed to assess why the body isn’t working optimally and identify how to improve it.

It can be used to address posture related issues, for pain management, injury rehabilitation, or to relieve muscle tension.

Through everyday lifestyle activities and poor postural habits, muscles and tendons can become tense, damaged, and imbalanced, causing discomfort and pain . Therapeutic massage incorporates a range of techniques including but not limited to deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial release, postural assessment and neuromuscular therapy (NMT), to address these issues holistically. Its best to trace the problem as far back as we can to the original cause, treating the cause and the symptoms.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Your first session will begin with a detailed history and discussion of problem areas. You may be taken through a postural and/or range of movement assessment to determine limitations and specific problems and from there we develop a treatment plan (which may include some exercises for you at home). Future sessions will start with a brief discussion, to ensure your problem areas are improving and your treatment plan is still appropriate, to achieve the results you are looking for. Depending on your situation and type of injury or dysfunction it can take anywhere between 2 to 6, weekly sessions to significantly decrease or completely free you of your pain and restore functional movement. From there we will teach you techniques and tools for you to use, to continue your new sense of wellness and remain pain free.

Often a deep tissue massage will include working on deep structural muscles, which may cause some discomfort; we will communicate with you through out the process, to ensure you are not outside your comfort zone.

SPORTS THERAPY

Whether you are a professional athlete, competing at top level or you are a recreational athlete who just enjoys getting active, sports is about performance.

Exercise is good for us in many ways, but sports can be physically stressful on your body.  From time to time you will find if balance isn't restored and tension released in your body, you can end up overusing muscle groups and not performing at an optimal level.

Sports massage is designed to optimise your performance and recovery. Incorporating massage therapy into your training is a fantastic feedback tool. In your initial consultation we establish your physical baseline with a thorough client history, specifically any past or present injuries and develop a treatment plan to enhance your training and reintegrate areas of physical imbalance to a ensure your body is functioning efficiently as a whole.

BENEFITS:

  • Alleviates muscle tension and inflammation associated with exercise and the overuse of specific muscles
  • Helps prevent muscle imbalances and injuries such as strains and tears.
  • Speeds up recovery by increasing oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and decreasing fatigue.
  • Breaks down scar tissue and tissue adhesions effectively promoting muscle repair, increased flexibility, and strength.
  • Enhances athletic abilities and endurance.
  • Reduces likelihood of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

RELAXATION

Taking the time to look after ourselves is something we often relegate to the bottom of our to-do list.  Put it straight to the top of your list and book a relaxation massage to:

  • Reduce stress in both body and mind
  •  Improve your sleep
  •  Increase your energy
  • Improve your concentration
  • Increase your circulation and oxygen supply
  • Stimulate your body’s natural immune system

PREGNANCY

With pregnancy there are many changes that occur, and understanding these I will adapt your massage to suit you and your baby's needs and  help support you through your pregnancy.

Your individualised massage therapy program will help improve circulation bringing more oxygen & nutrients to the cells in you and your baby's body as well as giving you (mum) relief from muscular aches and pains; reducing oedema (swelling) to hands, legs and feet improving waste product removal, resulting in less fatigue & more energy; inducing deeper, restorative sleep with relaxation massage - decreasing stress levels, helping you to enjoy pregnancy and prepare for childbirth with a happy baby.

While receiving your massage you will be gently positioned on your side with the use of pillows to bolster and large towels to ensure your comfort. Having regular massage throughout your pregnancy will improve your flexibility and energy levels preparing you for labour.
